Ex altera parte, exstitit lingua Latina cotidiana, quam ego voco colloquialem, interdum etiam Cartesianam, quatenus praeditam crystallina evidentia, lingua qua Romani utebantur domi, per vias, in foris, inter se candide et confidenter sermocinantes, quae lingua, sicut quaelibet lingua cotidiana, (quam Itali lingua parlata vocant, Umgangsprache Theodisci), erat directa, simplex, seclusis inversionibus et elegantiis.
Quod vero hae duae linguae Latinae sunt inter se dilucide ac plane discrepantes, ex hoc depromitur quod a diversis formis mentis scaturiunt (italice dicimus «scaturiscono da due diversi atteggiamenti mentali»): loquentes cotidiane, huc tantummodo spectant, ut simpliciter ac distincte sua cogitata suasque necessitates communicent. Auctor contra Latinus, cum stilum manu sumebat, sibi proponebat ut opus artis conficeret, ideoque stricte exquisitis minutisque legibus artis rhetoricae et stilisticae obtemperabat et exarabat quam apte Theodisci Kunstprosam appellant, quam Leontinus Gorgias excogitavit et diffudit et quam Isocrates Graecus et Romanus Cicero ad summam perfectionem adduxerunt.
Nunc autem transeamus ad quaestionem primariam, nempe de methodo, ope cuius fructuosior et levior fiat Latinae linguae institutio.
Unusquisque professor et magister suam propriam habet methodum, quam ipse per suum curriculum effinxit eamque assidue suis discipulis aptandam curavit, quae methodus est quodammodo proiectio et effusio eius culturae eiusque latinitatis amore. Per se ergo quaelibet methodus est laude digna. At hic ego proponere velim methodum, quam principem soleo appellare (et hic mihi est a vobis venia petenda propter superbiolam quae in vocabulo «principis» inest), methodum quae permittat ut discipuli non modo valeant linguam Latinam adhibere vivam, limpidam videlicet et pianam, sed interpretari quoque aliquantulum expedite paginas Classicorum earumque pedetemptim, elegantem illam et architectonicam structuram percipere et degustare.
Ecce igitur quid sit magistro linguae Latinac agendum:
ingrediens in conclave scholasticum, iam a prima praelectione incipiat callide miscere, dum primas elementarissimas notiones offert linguae Latinae, patriam linguam et linguam Latinam (adhibens evidenter linguam Latinam planissimam et crystallinae evidentiae), initio vertens hic illic nonnulla tantummodo verba patria in Latinum, inde eorum numerum sensim, prosequente tempore, augens, atque ea semper clare pronuntians ac pluriens repetens, ita ut discipuli incipiant in suis mentibus prima Latina vocabula deponere, sic quoddam parvum apparantes lexicon Latinum, quod, labentibus hebdomadis et mensibus, gradatim locupletabitur atque permittet discipulis ut, exemplo professoris allecti, incipiant tandem et ipsi, caute quidem et lente, Latine respondere simplicissimis magistri interrogationibus, inde quaedam latine quaerere ex illo, et inter se primos planissimos dialogos Latine conserere.
Cum autem illi aliquam competentiam activam assecuti erunt, id est facultatem sua cogitata Latine exprimendi, caute utique et lente, tunc ecce contactum, ut dicitur, cum Auctoribus incipient, a simplicioribus ordientes. Et linguae patriae et Latinae mixtio semper erit usurpanda, sive in Auctorum praesentatione, sive in eorum paginis explicandis, sive in normis grammaticalibus enucleandis; labente autem tempore, sensim Latina lingua praevalebit et in classibus superioribus usus Latini vivi magis magisque dominabitur, itaque discipuli, ad Universitatem Studiorum accedentes, iam se lucide exprimere Latine valebunt atque illis acrius et profundius Scriptorum Latinorum opera penetrare et degustare licebit. Qui enim aliquam linguam vivam adhibeat, etsi quadam simplicitate, iam in intimum cor eius penetravit et est idcirco paratus ad summorum Auctorum paginas eius linguae potiendas et penetrandas multo citius ac subtilius quam qui eam linguam non per usum, sed per abstracta et normativa schemata didicerint. Praeterea, isti studentes academici, lauream adepti, fieri poterunt magistri linguae Latinae vivae perfecte idonei, quippe loquentes Latine, ad usurpandam novam methodum cum futuris discipulis.
At eiusmodi methodus exigit ut magister vel professor iam ipse sua cogitata exprimere sciat Latine, non profecto arduo sermone litterario, sed liquido colloquiali sermone. Quis vero magistros Latinae linguae docuit loqui Latine? Non utique Universitas Studiorum, tota in exquisita philologia persequenda. Ceterum, nonne magistri Latinae linguae sunt verissimo sensu lexica latina viventia? Tot enim sunt substantiva,adiectiva, pronomina, adverbia..., quae ipsi per tot annos studii et curriculi didicerunt et arripuerunt; valent praeterea quodlibet verbum flectere atque innumeros Latinae linguae constructus cognoscunt. Quomodo ergo fieri potest ut loqui Latine nesciant? Et reapse hodie fere nullus magister linguae Latinae valet, neque audet, simplicem Latinam sermocinationem conserere, cuiuus rei ratio est simplex: integra enim ingentissima massa lexicalis, quam ipse in mente possidet, iacet in ea aggerata et simul confuse mixta, quasi dormitans. Sufficiet ergo quaedam ingeniosa exercitatio quae illam amplissimam materiam expergefaciat et deglomeret eiusque singula elementa idonea instruat velocitate, qua se praesentare valeant ante mentem loquentis, et exinde ore pronuntiari.
Exstat revera eiusmodi exercitatio, quae est simplicissima nec quidquam constat (e che non costa nulla), ad quam exercendam numquam defatigor, in Conventibus de lingua Latina, hortari iuvenes praesertim collegas, utpote ad res novas experiendas promptiores.
Exponam ergo quomodo haec exercitatio sit ineunda:
Magister in suo conclavi scriptorio deambulans, mente fingens se suos alloqui discipulos, elata ac lenta voce et bene articulans verba, tenens in promptu lexicon Latinum, si forte aliquod accidat vacuum, ut hodie dicimus, memoriae, incipiat aliquam simplicissimam regulam Latine exponere, vel aliquam Phaedri fabellam, vel aliquam brevem narratiunculam de quodam Auctore Latino, stilo autem planissimo et recto.
Mihi liceat nonnulla exempla proferre:
Sic incipere potest magister: «Vobis hodie explicabo notiones Subiecti et Obiecti. Inspicite has duas propositiones: "l'aquila improvvisamente volò via - i cacciatori uccisero l'aquila". In priore propositione, est aquila quae facit actum evolandi, in secunda propositione, venatores faciunt actionem necandi et aquila patitur actum necandi. Nunc autem, qui facit actum (chi fa l'azione), vocatur Subiectum, qui contra subit, patitur actionem, vocatur Obiectum. Ergo in priore propositione, aquila est Subiectum, in secunda est Obiectum, et venatores sunt Subiectum.
Nunc autem bene attendite (fate bene attenzione). Lingua Italica facit nullum discrimen, quod attinet ad casum (per quanto riguarda il caso) inter Subiectum et Obiectum: l'aquila volò via - i cacciatori uccisero l'aquila. Contra (invece) , lingua Latina distinguit accurate et ponit Subiectum in casu Nominativo, Obiectum in casu Accusativo. Dicemus ergo: Aquila improviso evolavit - venatores necaverunt Aquilam.
Haec est prima difficultas in quam incurrimus nos Itali, cum incipimus discere linguam Latinam. Ergo curate ut bene distinguatis in variis propositionibus quaenam sint personae vel res quae faciunt actionem (ergo erunt Subiecta et exigent casum Nominativum), ab illis quae subeunt, patiuntur actionem (quae ideo erunt Obiecta et exigent casum Accusativum.)»
Et ecce nunc quomodo magister possit exponere Latine fabellam Phaedri:
«Cervus cum bibisset ad fontem, restitit et vidit imaginem suam in aqua. Et dum miratur splendida sua cornua et vituperat tenuitatem crurum, improviso audivit sonum cornuum venatorum (il termine «cornua» significa sia «le corna», sia «i corni»). Tunc territus coepit fugere per prata et agili cursu digressus est a canibus, eos valde longe relinquens. Sed cum ingressus esset in densam silvam, cornua ramosa coeperunt impedire eius cursum et sic canes potuerunt eum consequi et coeperunt illum dilacerare morsibus. Ut patet, magister hanc materiam ad libitum variare potest, sive quoad res grammaticales, sive quoad Phaedrum, sive quoad Auctores Romanos; maxime autem interest ut assidua perseverantia se gerat. Initio non deerunt perplexitates et incertitudines, at cito (qui enim loquitur est vivens lexicon Latinum!) post duos tresve dies iam incipiet quadam securitate se Latine exprimere, atque tandem, post circiter decem dies, grata obstupefactione captus ac quadam animi commotione arreptus, animadvertet se civem Romanum factum esse, qui iam sua cogitata clare atque pacate limpida Latina lingua expromere valeat.
Et incantamentum Latini vivi numquam posthac illum relinquet simulque in eo desiderium coorietur efficiendi ut sui quoque discipuli hanc miram experientiam participare queant.
Si qui autem magister, idoneam adeptus competentiam activam Latine loquendi, novam hanc methodum vivam, de qua disserui, in sua classe hodie usurpare cupiat, in non paucas incidet difficultates. Quomodo a Praeside licentiam assequetur adhibendi methodum quae rerum scholasticarum statum tam audacter evertat? Quid opinabuntur collegae? At praesertim ubinam tempus inveniet discipulos usui vivo Latinae linguae initiandi? Nos enim magistri cogimur praestituta studii programmata discipulis explicare eosque ad examina, ipsa quoque praedefinita, apparare. Italici ergo magistri linguae Latinae manus habent vinctas quoad non excutietur ac probabitur a Legumlatorum Collegio (il Parlamento) notissima illa «motio» honorabilis viri Fiandrotti, sectae socialisticae, quae abhinc decem circiter annos lata est Italicis legumlatoribus, requirens ut lingua Latina non modo iterum in Scholas Medias introduceretur, unde indecore atque inique expulsa est anno 1977, sed etiam ut ipsa lingua Latina nova quadam methodo viva doceri inciperet, (cui motioni additum est, ipso mense Aprili anni 1998 a nonnullis Senatoribus Propositum legis (Disegno di legge), a Legumlatorum Collegio excutiendum et probandum, quo rogatur «... ut inseratur linguae Latinae institutio in Scholam Fundamentalem (Scuola Media)... sic denuo reddentes adulescentibus clavem scriniorum pretiosorum, complectentium thesauros qui illis debentur... Hoc modo, Italica proles fruetur potissimo instrumento, addito ceteris, cognitionis et ingenii maturationis, ut integre atque scienter civilis hodiernae societatis participes fieri possint... ope renovatae didacticae artis per usum linguae latinae vivae, quae adiuvet ad studium Classicorum penetrantius reddendum».
Attamen hodie quoque fas est magistris discipulos usui vivo linguae Latinae iam initiare hoc, sit venia verbo, strategemate fruentes: magister domi praelectionem exaret de argumento apto ad discipulorum mentes alliciendas integre Latinam, inde eam perfecte memoriter absorbeat. Quodam autem die, discipulis nuntiet se illis praelectionem totam Latine prolatam oblaturum esse, et inde, inter stuporem et silentium in classe subito coorta, lente ac sonore praelectionem incipiat. Cum autem inter erectas aures et intentas discipulorum mentes, praelectionem expleverit, sonabit (expertus refero) applausus atque simul rogabunt discipuli ut sibi aliis quoque vicibus aliae eiusmodi praelectiones concedantur
Hoc modo, fiet Latino vivo initiatio et in discipulorum animis excitabitur illecebra ac lepos methodi quae eos adducat ad penetrandum in cor intimum Latinae linguae, quam tandem illi sentient non iam quasi rem mortuam, at contra veluti sermonem lucidum et vividum, qui sit praeterea optima propaedeutica ad accedendum, tempore progrediente, ad implexam et architectonicam classicorum linguam, quos illi non iam percipient ut abstrusos Scriptores antiquissimi aevi, sed veluti eiusdem amplissimae reipublicae Latinae concives.
Adnotetur vero nos, Latini vivi fautores, minime negare momentum atque efficaciam methodi traditae, per quam lingua Latina ultimis duobus saeculis oblata est discenda adulescentibus in scholis publicis, quae methodus unice spectabat et unice iniitebatur studio atque imitatione Classicorum linguae, ad quam possidendam minutae ac subtiles adhibebantur analyses grammaticales et syntacticae, plurimae exercitationes, quae ad artem recte et eleganter Latine scribendi attinerent, et, ut par est, attentae locorum conversiones commentationesque summorum Auctorum. Quam enim ingens adulescentium numerus bis duobus saeculis a latinitatis scholis exierunt uberrime parati ad analyses ac syntheses mentibus exercendas, idcirco optime apti ad multiplicia munera in civili societate obeunda, spiendidis praeterea cogitationibus et amplis historicis cognitionibus locupletati, quae omnia a mirando illo scrinio hauserant Romanorum Auctorum!
Attamen, si nostra viva methodus adhibeatur in Europae scholis, quae in ipsius linguae Latinae vivo usu fundetur, ex una parte magis pervium et expeditius et levius Latinae linguae studium reddetur, et ex altera fient discipuli ad paginas Auctorum penetrandas promptiores, cum ipsa linguae Latinae colloquialis viva exercitatio sit per se peculiarissinia et aptissima propaedeutica ad arduam et architectonicam summorum Auctorum linguam potiendam.
Neque est obliviscendum hunc ipsum sermonem Latinum colloquialem, labentibus annis, ab omnibus nationibus Europaeis usurpari posse velut flexibile et planum instrumentum communicationis.
Nihil ergo aliud demum proponimus nisi ut utraque methodus quodammodo simul ingeniose coalescant ad duplicem finem assequendum: hinc, ut discipuli celerius et uberius ab operibus Auctorum Latinoruni haurire valeant, et illinc, ut crystallina lingua vehiculari locupletentur, quae babelicum plurilinguismum Europae denique praetergrediatur, idcirco efficiat ut istae inquietae et rixosae Europae gentes, per usum eiusdem translucidae linguae communis, ad mutuam tandem fraternitatem allici queant.
